Painting With Aerosol Spray Paint – A Simple Guide

If you are planning to use aerosol spray paints to paint any surface but don’t know what the correct way to do it would be, then this post is for you. Below, we look at the steps that are involved while painting with spray paints.

Preparing The Surface

This is an important phase of painting that you must never overlook. It is necessary that the surface is prepared correctly so that the paint sticks to it and lasts a long time. Clean up all dirt, sand particles etc from the surface. If you find rust, then that too must be scrapped out. You can do this by using a wire brush or a scraper. If the surface already has a coating of paint, then look for any loose paint and remove it completely. If you don’t remove the loose paint, and decide to paint over it, then there is a big risk that the new coating might fall off the surface because of the previous coating being loose.

Priming

The next step of spray painting is priming. There are a number of primers which can get the job done. These include plastic, white, red oxide and gray primers. Each one of them has their own unique qualities that make them good for certain surfaces. For example, if you are using a plastic surface, then a plastic primer would be more suitable as it flexes with the plastic below it, thereby ensuring that the paint on the top does not crack. When using a primer, make sure that you shake the can very well before applying it on the surface.

The Paint

Once the priming is finished, you can move on to painting the surface. Apply a coat of paint and let it dry out. And then apply another layer on top of it. Repeat the process until you think that the surface has been sufficiently coated with paint. This method is far more effective at creating a high quality painted surface than just splashing a thick coat of paint on top.

Lacquering

When the surface has been properly painted on, then you must lacquer it. This does two things.  Firstly, it provides a glossy sheen to the surface which can gives it a high quality look. The second benefit is that lacquering acts as a protective layer to the paint underneath it, thereby ensuring that it lasts longer. Applying lacquering is very easy. You only have to perform the same steps you did while applying paint.

And when thinking of spray painting any surface, make sure that you use recyclable spray paint cans like those available from http://signaturefillingcompany.com/. This will ensure that you get to benefit from using the spray paint while remaining environmentally friendly.
